Bands-Aids have been around forever and they worked just fine! So when Curad lunged onto the scene challenging the Band-Aid brand, everyone thought they were crazy!
Honestly, band-aids were terrific! So what could Curad possibly do to challenge them?
First, they created little tin containers to carry the bandages. Kids loved them because they were able to use the empty cans to carry their marbles, baseball cards, bubbles gums, etc.
But they went further and created bandages with characters printed on them. Kids, the prime consumers of small bandages, absolutely loved them. So did their parents who wanted to encourage the proper care of their “booboos.”
After the first few kids wore the character bandages at school, it didn’t long before all their friends jumped on the band(age) wagon.
Here’s another prime example of recreating a household product but making it remarkable. Thinking about of the box (or inside the tin box) can help a brand grab a huge chunk of an existing market share.
